On 30 September in Brussels, during the opening of European Hydrogen Week 2025, Hydrogen Europe – of which the Bulgarian Hydrogen, Fuel Cell and Energy Storage Association is a member – issued a clear message: hydrogen is Europe’s path to resilience and energy autonomy.
Industry leaders are calling for a new European Hydrogen Strategy, built on four strategic pillars:
- Regulatory simplification and investment security
- Lead markets to drive demand
- Mobility and infrastructure
- Resilience strategy and energy sovereignty
These four pillars should form the foundation of a new European Hydrogen Strategy, focused on the principle “Resilience First.”
Hydrogen Europe stresses that we cannot wait until the end of 2026 for this strategy to be adopted. The European Court of Auditors has recommended it be prepared by the end of 2025, with Cyprus and Ireland expected to use their EU Presidencies to secure its adoption no later than early 2026.
The Bulgarian Hydrogen, Fuel Cell and Energy Storage Association joins this call, underlining that hydrogen is not only a decarbonisation tool but also a driver of economic and energy resilience. It enables the large-scale storage of renewable energy and plays a crucial role in reducing dependence on external suppliers.
