The Bulgarian Hydrogen, Fuel Cell and Energy Storage Association (BGH2A) and the Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia (CluBE) are strengthening Bulgarian-Greek cooperation in hydrogen technologies, sustainable development and the transition to clean energy.
On 7 September 2026, BGH2A and the Greek Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia (CluBE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining the main areas of future cooperation between the two organisations.
The partnership aims to strengthen links between expert and professional communities in Bulgaria and Greece while contributing to closer regional coordination across Central and Southeast Europe. This is particularly relevant at a time when the development of hydrogen technologies increasingly depends on effective cooperation between research organisations, industry, public institutions and professional networks.
Sharing expertise and developing joint European initiatives
The Memorandum provides a framework for the exchange of technical expertise, analyses, data and best practices related to renewable hydrogen, sustainable development and the clean energy transition.
BGH2A and CluBE will also seek closer coordination on issues of common interest at European level, including topics of direct relevance to Bulgaria, Greece and the wider Central and Southeast European region.
The areas of cooperation include the joint organisation of scientific and professional events, training activities and public initiatives, as well as the development of joint project proposals and participation in European consortia.
The partnership will help turn the knowledge and practical experience accumulated within both organisations and their networks into new collaborations, projects and practical solutions.
Regional cooperation as a key element of the hydrogen economy
The development of a hydrogen economy can no longer be viewed solely within the boundaries of individual national markets. Hydrogen production, infrastructure, transport, industrial demand, regulatory frameworks and skills development increasingly require coordination across countries, regions and sectors.
This gives the cooperation between BGH2A and CluBE a clear regional dimension.
The Memorandum places particular emphasis on promoting innovation and knowledge exchange, developing joint pilot initiatives and facilitating the transfer of successful practices. Shared objectives also include supporting decarbonisation, improving energy efficiency and contributing to the development of a sustainable and competitive hydrogen ecosystem.
Strengthening cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece
For BGH2A, the partnership with CluBE represents an important step towards connecting Bulgarian expertise, organisations and initiatives more closely with partners in Greece and with broader European developments in hydrogen and the energy transition.
The cooperation will create new opportunities to exchange practical experience, develop joint positions and prepare initiatives bringing together the research community, industry and public institutions.
The signing of the Memorandum establishes a foundation for a long-term partnership focused on concrete joint action, new European initiatives and stronger regional connectivity in the development of hydrogen technologies and clean energy.
