On May 10 and 11, as part of the Sofia Science Festival, the Bulgarian Hydrogen, Fuel Cell, and Energy Storage Association partnered with the Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems (IEES-BAS) to host a special hydrogen-themed stand titled “Hydrogen Adventure,” aimed at the youngest visitors—and anyone curious about the future of clean energy!
We received invaluable assistance from a very special participant — the superhero Vodorodcho — energetic, inquisitive, and always ready for an adventure! With Vodorodcho’s help, children learned about:
- How hydrogen powers vehicles, homes, and even the stars!
- What happens inside a hydrogen car?
- And how hydrogen can be used to travel… not just on the road but even in the sea or space!

Festival guests also learned about the H2START project, coordinated by Trakia University in Stara Zagora, with the Association as a partner. The young audience, along with their parents, discovered more about the project’s goals —developing a cutting-edge Bulgarian research and innovation center for clean hydrogen technologies. We hope that, in a few years, some of today’s young visitors will become the scientists of tomorrow.
We extend special thanks to our partners:
- The Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems (IEES-BAS), who presented the first hydrogen car in Bulgaria—the Hyundai Nexo—along with experiments and live demonstrations of hydrogen technologies in action
- See Hydrogen, who provided the Toyota Mirai hydrogen car for demonstration
- Trakia University, who provided model hydrogen cars for children to play and learn
- Sofia Science Festival, for giving us the opportunity to present hydrogen in an accessible and exciting way to young researchers and their families
We’re confident that Vodorodcho will continue to guide both children and adults on inspiring journeys into the world of science, technology, and a sustainable future.
