Master Class: Advanced Data Analysis in Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS)

Differential Impedance Analysis and its Applications for Fuel Cells and Electrolyzers Studies

The H2START Center of Excellence is opening its doors to young researchers and enthusiasts of electrochemistry with a specialized Master Class that promises to broaden horizons in the field of energy technologies.

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) has long been a key method for studying complex electrochemical systems. Yet, a breakthrough comes with the Differential Impedance Analysis (DIA) – an innovative method born within the Bulgarian school of impedance research. DIA allows us to go beyond conventional approaches: it reveals hidden processes, identifies structures and parameters directly from experimental data, and provides clarity without the need for preliminary assumptions.

Guiding participants through this advanced methodology will be Prof. Dr. Sc. Daria Vladikova, a leading expert with decades of research experience in hydrogen energy, fuel cells, and electrolyzers. Her expertise and practical insights will turn this class into a unique opportunity to learn from one of the most respected specialists in the field.

Over the course of the session, participants will explore the principles of DIA, learn about parametric, temporal, and spectral approaches, understand how to model systems with Constant Phase Elements (CPE), and see real-life applications of the method in studies of fuel cells and electrolyzers, with emphasis on solid oxide systems.

The Master Class is especially tailored for graduate and PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and young researchers eager to strengthen their expertise in chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, electroceramics, electrochemistry, hydrogen, and green energy technologies.

📍 The event will take place at the Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems – BAS (Acad. G. Bonchev St., Bl. 10, 1st floor, Small Conference Hall) on 12 September 2025. The intensive session is divided into two parts: 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00. Participants can join either in person or online.

The format combines lecture, interactive discussion, and case studies, ensuring that every attendee not only gains knowledge but also understands its real-world applications. Each participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
