Hydrogen Europe has released a new position paper offering detailed guidance on the implementation of REDIII in the transport sector. With the transposition deadline now passed, Member States show widely different approaches in the implementation of such transpositions.
The paper outlines key policy recommendations to support the fair deployment of RFNBO hydrogen – including one RFNBO target across transport modes, 1% RFNBO sub-target as a minimum, count 100% of refinery-used hydrogen towards REDIII transport targets, extend RFNBO targets beyond 2030 for investor certainty, stronger incentives etc.
A harmonized framework is essential to ensure that hydrogen’s role in decarbonizing mobility reaches its full potential.
