Bulgarian Hydrogen, Fuel Cell and Energy Storage Association Presents HySEE Project in Stara Zagora

On 30 September, the Bulgarian Hydrogen, Fuel Cell and Energy Storage Association (BGH2A) presented the HySEE – Hydrogen in Southeast Europe project during a stakeholder meeting held in Stara Zagora.

The project aims to support the development of the renewable hydrogen market in Bulgaria and Romania by analysing production and consumption potential, infrastructure needs, the regulatory environment, and opportunities for future investment.

Engaging with regional stakeholders

A key focus of the meeting was active dialogue with representatives of businesses, local institutions, the research and education communities, as well as local media.

BGH2A is working to build a strong network of stakeholders that can support the development of the hydrogen economy in Bulgaria and across the countries of the Southeast European Hydrogen Corridor.

The meeting in Stara Zagora provided an opportunity to share and discuss different perspectives, practical experience, and views on the development of hydrogen projects in Bulgaria. Particular attention was given to the specific challenges, needs, and opportunities of the Stara Zagora region.

Regional experience as part of the HySEE project

Active stakeholder participation is a key element of both BGH2A’s objectives and the work carried out under the HySEE project. The aim is for representatives of businesses, local authorities, research and educational organisations, and other stakeholders not only to be informed about the project, but also to participate actively in the process.

Their practical experience and feedback will contribute to the preparation of analyses and recommendations, which will subsequently be presented to the relevant institutions working in the energy sector in the participating countries.

In this way, the project creates a link between regional needs, expert analysis, and the policy-making processes that shape the development of renewable hydrogen.

Stakeholder dialogue will continue

The discussion in Stara Zagora provided answers to a number of questions while also identifying new topics that require further consideration.

Stakeholder engagement will therefore continue, including through meetings in other regions of Bulgaria. The objective is to ensure that different regional perspectives, needs, and opportunities are reflected in the work of HySEE and in the broader development of Bulgaria’s hydrogen ecosystem.
