At the Sofia Science Festival, visitors at the BGH2A stand learned about the incredible journey of the Energy Observer, the first vessel autonomous in energy thanks to a mix of renewable energy and renewable hydrogen produced onboard. Now, we’re thrilled to share that the Energy Observer is embarking on its next chapter – a 2025–2033 voyage powered by Toyota’s cutting-edge fuel cell technology!

In its first odyssey, the Energy Observer sailed over 68,000 nautical miles (more than three times around the globe), proving the viability of a renewable energy mix: hydrogen, solar and wind. The new expedition – a nine-year journey, titled “In Search of Carbon Neutrality”, will feature seven missions: from carbon capture to biodiversity and circular economy models, and will include an Arctic world tour. From 2025 to 2026, the first Energy Observer laboratory vessel will continue its missions in Europe. In 2027, the EO3 vessel – equipped with breakthrough energy tech – will take over, blending experience, cutting-edge solutions, and a vision to transform the future.

At BGH2A, we’re more excited than ever to follow this journey and see how the Energy Observer continues to inspire innovation and progress in the hydrogen sector. Stay tuned for more updates!
