On 15 September the European Commission launched a one-month call for evidence to gather observations and proposals for a revision of the EU’s energy security framework. The review aims to collect stakeholder input ahead of a proposal for an updated framework expected in Q1 2026, alongside targeted consultations with experts and industry.
The Commission says the exercise will address emerging risks to energy systems — including physical and cyber threats to critical infrastructure, climate-related impacts and a shifting geopolitical environment. Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen has stressed the need for a “stronger and forward-looking energy security framework” to ensure reliable supplies in the face of these new challenges. The consultation is open until 13 October 2025 and offers a chance for business, academia and civil society to contribute.
BGH2A supports the Commission’s initiative and believes that hydrogen will play a central role in Europe’s energy security – notably as a large-scale storage solution for renewable-generated electricity. For more information and how to participate, see the European Commission’s page.
